Lately I’ve been thinking, perhaps even more so than usual. Some of the thoughts that run through my head have to do with sailing away.
Sailing away from the problems that plague our United States of America, sailing away from the pain, the angst, and the hurt.
It may come as no surprise to you, if you follow my work, that Styx’s “Come Sail Away” is among my top ten songs ever. My love of the sea is well known to you. THAT is what I dream about -- of anchoring a boat, a ship -- AND SAILING AWAY -- WITH ALL OF YOU, my friends, and readers.
The sea is pure freedom. When one is surrounded by the ocean’s roar, it is hard to think of anything except the beauty of the moment.
But there is one problem with my thinking.
That happens to be -- solid ground.
Were I to charter a great big beautiful boat -- I’d have to look toward land -- and what’s happening on land is not so great.
It is also OUR responsibility -- ALL of us -- to do our part to stop it.
Before I started writing for Palmer Report, I never indulged in work that TOUCHED me -- touched my SOUL -- made me feel as if I were achieving something.
The search for meaning in life is everlasting, I’d imagine for all of us. Never have I felt my life, my work, my skills -- were more meaningful than when I am doing my small part to help change the world.
And it is working. I bring receipts.
“Trump gets worrying midterms sign.” NEWSWEEK
“Trump approval stuck in the thirties.” Washington Post
It is you -- and I and all of us who are at least partially responsible for bringing those numbers down, down, down. We’re getting the word out. We’re doing what we were born to do.
IRAN.
Trump played with fire and got burned. He cannot stop the war in Iran. He cannot do much of anything because he’s a crazy, senile bastard.
“Concerns mount over Trump’s hoarse voice,.” Yahoo
“Donald Trump sparks health concerns after ranting and raving” Irish Star
“Donald Trump health concerns grow as he ‘wanders off’ and falls asleep at NATO summit.”
At last, the media are talking about what we here at Palmer Report have been discussing for years. Trump lost his mind. He is not OK. The sheer VOLUME of articles coming out about this subject is mind-blowing.
Trump’s speech the other night was so awful that networks refused even to air it.
There is no area of politics where Trump is doing well. Not one.
Remember that the next time YOU get frustrated. Remember that the next time YOU feel like sailing away.
As I said when I began this essay, the grass isn’t always greener.
Sailing away may be nice in theory, but I am a fighter — always have been.
I enjoyed this very much. While I’m well aware of politics and how damaging Trump is for the world, I don’t allow it to impact me emotionally anymore. I appreciate the way you poetically presented all of this. Thank you for sharing.
What continues to trouble me is the lack of pushback from the GOP. It’s simply disgusting to watch them cower from the “president.”
